Data Profile: Motor Vehicle Defects Investigation Database
Motor Vehicle Defects Investigation Database
   Overview
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration provides consumers with the Motor Vehicle Defects Investigation Database, which contains motor vehicle and related safety defect investigations of vehicles, tires and equipment opened since 1972. Investigations are opened as a result of suspected component failures that present a risk to highway safety, and from non-compliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. Data are available by year, make or model. Monthly tables of active investigations are available since 1998.

Available data include 1) notices of vehicle, tire and equipment defect investigations by make, model, and year and 2) status or conclusions of defect investigation.
