Data Profile: Crash Outcome Data Evaluation System (CODES)
Crash Outcome Data Evaluation System (CODES)
   Overview
The Crash Outcome Data Evaluation System (CODES) provides medical and financial outcome information related to motor vehicle crashes. It evolved as a result of the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act (ISTEA) of 1991 that provided funds to the National Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to report to Congress about the benefits of safety belts and motorcycle helmets for persons involved in motor vehicle crashes.

Available data include motor vehicle accident outcome information, including injuries, property damage, and medical expenses, by type of accident, conditions of accident and driver behavior.

Visit the Crash Outcome Data Evaluation System.
