Annual Survey of Manufactures | Overview | The U.S. Census Bureau conducts the Annual Survey of Manufactures (ASM), a study of employment and production worker totals and gross wages and payroll data by industry. ASM includes transportation-related manufacturing industries. Other transportation industry data include gross production hours, value added by manufacturers, gross cost of materials, and gross value of shipments. These data are important for calculating transportation industry costs and economic impacts.
Available data series include 1) employment and labor costs for major U.S. manufacturing industries, 2) gross production hours, value added by manufacturers, gross cost of materials, and gross value of shipments, and 3) inventories of manufacturers.
