National Compensation Survey (NCS) |
Overview |
The Bureau of Labor Statistics collects detailed data on local, regional, and national occupational earnings in the National Compensation Survey (NCS). The three main components of NCS are Wages, the Employment Cost Index (ECI), and Benefits. Wages data includes average hourly wages by industry, occupational group, full-time and part-time status, union and nonunion status, establishment size, time and incentive status, and job level for up to 480 occupations in over 85 metropolitan and nonmetropolitan localities. ECI measures quarterly changes in employer costs. Benefits data describes the incidence and detailed provisions of selected employee benefit plans in small private establishments, medium and large private establishments, and state and local governments. Data availability varies by occupation and by area.
Available data series include 1) wages by industry and occupation, 2) percent change in compensation by private and public sector, 3) percent change in compensation by industry, 4) change in labor cost per hour worked, and 5) benefits cost per employee.
